WELCOME TO WALKERTON

When you drive through Walkerton you notice that things are happening. Sharp, newer directional signs point the way to the town’s many assets, which includes a new Ambulance Bay/ EMS Facility. We are a town on the move with many other improvements in the works. Our small park in the center of town with the charming clock and benches is the perfect place to “sit a spell” and rest from your shopping. Our shopping district has almost everything you could want; a bank, hardware store, grocery store, a couple of great locally owned, restaurants and an antique shop. Add fast food restaurants to the mix and all your needs are met.

Nestled off the busy main thoroughfare is a wealth of charming homes. There is something for everyone. Our tree lined streets shade the diverse home selections, from the darling bungalows to the solid four squares that dot the Indiana landscape.

At the edge of town a 70’s development features sprawling ranches and impressive two-stories. The huge lots and seasoned landscaping add to the allure of this neighborhood. If a brand new home is what you crave, then Walnut Crossing at the northeastern end of town is just the thing for you, the fresh new homes and the quiet streets are perfect for families.

Our new senior housing is located in the heart of town and right next to the medical clinic, which is affiliated with the Indiana University Health Network. Seniors can walk to the post office and other shopping in town. There are several small apartment complexes scattered throughout the town which is perfect for renters.

One of our greatest achievements is turning the blighted West York neighborhood into the fabulous success of Dogwood Estates. This development is a true measure of this town’s capabilities. These new homes are available on a lease-to-own basis, and after 15 years the residents can purchase the homes. There is a Unity Garden and playground adjacent to the neighborhood.

Add to that Walkerton’s 3400 feet of new sidewalks, Scarborough Park with its 3 new ball fields, and School Park, which has a lovely walking trail and soccer plex. Our 2013 to 2015 Comprehensive Plan is dedicated to community growth. We invite you to come be part of it.
